Intermediate (50/70) (12-13 year olds)
The Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Division was re-introduced at FLAG
LL in 2024, which utilizes a 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base
paths. Home games are played at Fairview Legion Field 2 and regular
season games are played within the District which means away
games could be played at other LL community fields. 12 regular
season games are played with no playoffs scheduled in this division.
There is also a District All-Star tournament that starts in late June and
a roster is made up by the league coaches based on regular season
play.
The division, which was new division of Little League Baseball in 2013
for players league-age 11-13 with postseason tournament
opportunities, including a World Series, offers a transition for players
between the standard Little League field size (46-foot pitching
distance and 60-foot base paths) and the Junior/Senior field size (60-
foot, 6-inch pitching distance and 90-foot base paths).
Intermediate league follows many of the Junior League rules that
include base runners being permitted to lead off bases, runners may
attempt to steal at any time, and pitchers throwing from the stretch. In
most scenarios this league is a 13-year-old only league but in
situations that a player wants to play at this level at LL age 12 that is
absolutely permitted.
Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this division of
Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application
and passing a required national background check, parents may
become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers,
umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions
within the league. No prior coaching experience is needed to become
a coach. FLAG LL is here to help coaches with practice plans and
help guide as needed.
